In België heeft waarschijnlijk niemand wakker gelegen van het wereldkampioenschap baseball (World Baseball Classic). De sport niet populair in België noemen is nog een understatement. Maar Japan heeft dus, na de eerste editie, nu ook de tweede editie gewonnen. Japan? Baseball? De sport is hier dan wel erg populair en er zaten dan ook veel mensen via hun gsm (ik mag dat woord eigenlijk niet meer gebruiken van Nathalie) te kijken. Maar wat met de Verenigde Staten dan? De bakermat van het baseball? Wel dat heeft het dus weer niet gehaald. In de halve finale werd het door Japan met 9-4 huiswaarts gestuurd. Toch een beetje pijnlijk vanuit het standpunt van een derde. Zeker omdat ze hun eigen competitie 'World Series' noemen. Maar de vraag is of de Amerikanen er wakker van liggen. Hun eigen competitie zal wel nog altijd de sterkte zijn, en wat wil een mens meer?

Most people have probably not really followed the World Baseball Classic: the world championship for baseball. The countries were baseball is popular are rather limited, but in Japan they are crazy about it. Many people were watching television screens on the street or watching the games on their cell phones. They saw Japan winning the second edition, after winning the first one 3 years ago. Japan? Not the USA? the birthplace of baseball? The country were they call the post season championship series 'World Series'. The same. Japan sent them home with 9-4. The question is if Americans actually care about the World championship, since their competition is probably still the strongest in the world.
