IMDb

Wasting the evening away by reading the 'Hated it' reviews on IMDb for 'There will be blood'. Sometimes it can be so great to share contempt.

I thought it was a VERY VERY good movie. Better than No Country for Old Men, which I watched around the same time.

I am glad you liked it, I do:).

But to me, it all felt very pretentious, or rather the movie pretended to be deep. A metaphor for the American society or history (America being built on capitalism and religion and in the end religion has to bow for capitalism too). But the movie was nothing more than its metaphor. The characters nothing more than caricatures to convey the underlying message. And because of this (supported by mediocre acting), the message came across as very superficial and boring.
I believe the potential for a great movie was there, it just did not deliver (for me).
