People gather in parks to enjoy the cherry blossoms. They call it 'hanami' or flower viewing. You can only enjoy it two weeks a year.
And off course they organize a picnic under the cherry blossoms (which are actually cherry blossoms with no cherries)... Cherry fruit comes from another species of tree.
